Did you know that Saudis are really big on science, technology, and future innovation?
At least, there was a single report from the BBC Arabic to bolster this view. The Saudis give away a really big science prize, to showcase the "importance of science", says this BBC Arabic reporter:
I think this time around, a Chinese man got the prize. Here he is at an interview:
But this European-looking man seems to also be receiving a prize:
I'll bet they would puke before giving it to an American.
They give out several awards aside from the grand prize, and those have gone to Iraqis and Nigerians and so on.
The BBC Arabic clip said one of two things: either that the Saudis want to give out a politics prize in addition to science, or that these prizes are a way of putting science before politics. I don't remember which way it was.
